Alcohol experts convene in North East

"Taking an evidence-based approach to reducing alcohol-related harm", organised by Balance and the Association of North East Councils, looked at how the North East can influence national policy and use local evidence-based measures to reduce the impact of alcohol in the region. The two day event attracted over 150 delegates on each day, including partners from across the North East.

High profile speakers included:
• Prof Tim Stockwell – University of Victoria, Canada
• Evelyn Gillan: Alcohol Focus Scotland
• Prof Linda Bauld: University of Stirling
• Rosanna O’Connor: Public Health England
• Prof David Miller: University of Bath and co-founder, Spinwatch
• Sir Ian Gilmore: RCP,Chair Alcohol health Alliance
• Dr James Nicholls: Alcohol Research UK
• Adrian Lee: Chief Constable, Northamptonshire / ACPO portfolio lead for Alcohol Licensing and Harm Reduction
• Prof Gerard Hastings, University of Stirling / Open University.
